| Redevelopment/Facility Expansion - Phase 1 (2005 to 2009) |
| Phase One of York Central Hospital's Redevelopment will: |
- Triple the size of the Emergency and Diagnostic Imaging Departments
- Double the size of the Critical Care Unit, Hemodialysis and Outpatient Dialysis clinics
- Create a state-of-the-art Birthing Centre
- Create negative Pressure Rooms for isolation of highly infectious patients
- Provide Schedule One Mental Health Facilities including 6 new Secured Beds
- Add a total of 87 new Inpatient Beds including new Acute Care Medicine Facilities
- Expand Fracture, Plastics and Ophthalmology Clinics
- Add new Medical Staff Facilities and 2,800 sq. ft. Auditorium
- Size of Phase One Expansion- 148,230 sq. ft.

Core Services are defined as services that: Must be provided by a hospital for reasons of safety, expertise or expensive technology/equipment; Cannot exist without the hospital; Are needed by the hospital to conduct the business of patient care; Support the Emergency Department; Have sufficient volume to operate safely and cost efficiently; and Require close to home access for patients to avoid or reduce demands on patients and family. |
