Question:
What are the hospital's visiting hours? |
|
Answer:
General visiting hours are 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Children are permitted to visit as long as they are accompanied by an adult. There are special exceptions to our visiting hours which are as follows:
Critical Care: Visiting is limited to the immediate family and adults only. Ten minutes in any hour, 24-hours a day. Exceptions will be made at the discretion of the Nurse-In-Charge.
Maternity: Visiting hours for this unit are from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. seven days a week. Fathers and siblings can visit any time, except during rest period.
Paediatrics: Parents may visit any time. Other visitors should follow the general visiting hours. Children under 8 years of age are allowed to visit after arrangements are made with the Nurse-in-Charge. Only parents and grandparents may visit children who are in isolation.
Psychiatry: Monday to Friday from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m., weekends and holidays from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Do you have a walk-in clinic at York Central Hospital? |

Answer:
York Central Hospital operates a Fast Track Clinic in our Emergency Department which is open seven days a week from 12:00 noon until 1:00 a.m. Patients with non-life-threatening injuries or illnesses are assessed by the Emergency Department Triage Nurse who directs patients requiring stitches, uncomplicated casting etc., to the Fast Track Clinic.
Creating a separate area with its own staff for patients with non-life threatening ailments enables the doctors and nurses in the main Emergency Department to focus their efforts on the more seriously ill cases.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at York Central Hospital. Volunteers are the extension of the quality care we provide to the community. We believe our volunteers contribute to the professional environment and enhance the quality of care.
- York Central Hospital is looking for volunteers who understand and wish to work in an environment where:

Provided you are at least 14 years of age (we have no upper limit!), we will be happy to consider your application. For adult volunteers we request a minimum of a six-month commitment. Some positions require a 12-month commitment based on the level of complexity of the position. For student volunteers we request a commitment of a minimum of 50 hours.
Adult Volunteers are accepted on an ongoing basis with volunteer orientation occurring twice a month. Students Volunteers are accepted in September and June (please see How to Become a Student Volunteer (hyperlink) for the next scheduled Information Session).
- The process to be considered for an Adult Volunteer placement is:
- Complete the Application Form, have your family physician complete the Health form (2-step Mantoux TB test), and provide
- References from people other than family members or friends. You may wish to include a current resume.
- Bring your completed application package to the Volunteer & Community Resources Office. Candidates that meet the criteria will be contacted to arrange an interview.
- At the interview we will determine if there is a position available that benefits both you and the hospital.
Successful candidates must attend a 2-hour orientation, buy a uniform ($20) in the Gift Shop and meet your supervisor for training before officially starting.

I am expecting a baby soon. Is the cost of my accommodation at the hospital covered by my Provincial Health Coverage? |
Answer:
If you are a Canadian citizen with valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), ward accommodations (four people per room) are covered under your provincial health coverage.
The cost of semi-private and private accommodations maybe partially or fully covered by employer or other private health insurance. We encourage you to verify your employee or other private health insurance coverage with your insurance company prior to admission to the hospital. At York Central Hospital, the additional cost of semi-private accommodations (two people per room) is $190.00 a day, and the additional cost of private accommodation (only one person per room) is $225.00 a day. These are accommodation fees only and do not cover any other fees that may be associated with your delivery.
For non-residents of Canada, ward accommodations (four people per room) is $2,000.00 per day.

Can I reserve a private room for after the birth of my baby? |

Answer:
Private rooms cannot be reserved in advance. The post-partum unit at York Central Hospital has only 2 private rooms at the present time. These rooms are distributed on a first come first serve basis to those patients with private coverage.
Please note that if another patient has had a stillbirth or if a neonatal death occurs, occupants of private rooms may be asked to move to a semi-private room in order for the family to grieve in private.
