York Central
Hospital offers private, semi-Private and ward (4 beds per room)
accommodations. Every attempt is made to fulfill the patient's request for
private and semi-private accommodations; however, this can be limited by
availability. There are additional costs for private and semi-private
rooms.
Standard (Ward) Rooms
A standard patient room at York Central Hospital has four beds, with
privacy curtains. The cost of this room is generally covered by federal
and provincial (OHIP for Ontario residents) health insurance. This policy
does not apply to visitors to Canada or for uninsured procedures such as
cosmetic surgery. In these cases, arrangements will be made for payment
upon admission.
In the Centre for Continuing Care and
Rehabilitation, ward accommodation refers to 2-bed rooms.
Preferred (Private and Semi-Private)
Accommodations
Preferred accommodations are generally available upon request. Private
accommodations have only one bed per room, and semi-private accommodations
have two beds separated by a privacy curtain. The additional cost to stay
in one of these rooms is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance
Program (OHIP).
Many patients have additional health
insurance through an employee or private plan that may cover the cost for
preferred accommodation. If you do not have additional coverage under your
supplemental insurance plan and choose to stay in a private or
semi-private room, you will be required to pay the additional cost.
Sometimes, patients must move from private
or semi-private room to ward accommodations to provide necessary
accommodations for a more critical patient. These moves are only done in
critical circumstances and occur infrequently. We appreciate your
understanding if this happens to you or a loved one.
